Dorothy Brodd Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 2, 2024.
Dorothy S. Brodd (nee Siegle), age 98. Beloved wife for 73 years to the late Dr. Ralph J. Brodd, PhD. Devoted mother of Wayne, Lynn Faenza (Joe), and William "Bill". Cherished grandmother of Matthew Brodd, Stephanie Woodman, Stacy Rainwater (Chris), Angela Myford (Erik), David Faenza (Jocelyn), Alora Brodd, and Kendall Mareovich (Wes); loving great grandmother of 11. Dearest daughter of the late William and Dorothy (nee Hall) Siegle. Dear sister of the late Richard Siegle and Sally Keeling. Also survived by nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
Dorothy was born in 1926 and raised in Davenport, Iowa. She and Ralph were married in 1950 and moved to Austin, Texas where they started a family while Ralph earned his Masters and PhD in physical chemistry from the University of Texas. Together they, along with their 3 children, moved several times setting up home in Maryland, Dallas, Cleveland, Princeton, Chicago, Silicon Valley and eventually settled in Henderson (Las Vegas) before a final move back to Ohio recently. Dorothy loved hosting Bridge parties with their friends.
She taught Sunday School at Parma Lutheran Church and was very active in her Community Lutheran church in Las Vegas where she used her knitting and crocheting talents to make gifts for underprivileged families.
Dorothy helped compile and distribute many of Ralph's technical papers and helped publish an international newsletter focused on advances in rechargeable batteries and alternate energy sources.
Dorothy loved jigsaw puzzles, knitting and going to church on Sundays. She made the best Toll House cookies and a really good Chex mix for snacks!
Dorothy and Ralph enjoyed traveling together on Ralph's business trips, allowing both of them to see amazing sights in many countries from China, Japan, Europe, Australia and South Africa.
She will be remembered for her kind spirit, gentle nature and simple needs. Having grown up during The Great Depression, Dorothy made her own clothes for many years and rarely ever spent money to buy something store-bought.
We thank God for calling Dorothy home to eternal life in Heaven through Christ Jesus where she will be reunited with Ralph who passed away earlier this year.
Final Resting Place, Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge, Illinois. Arrangements entrusted to the A. RIPEPI & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 18149 BAGLEY ROAD, MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS (WEST OF I-71).
