Dorothy Riddle Carson passed away peacefully at the age of 100, in her Gastonia home on December 3, 2025. With her family surrounding her. Dot was born in Bowling Green, SC, on April 30, 1925.
She was predeceased by both of her parents, William Wilson and Mary Ida Riddle, her spouse of 68 years, Walton Whitelaw Carson, Sr. and her granddaughter, Mary Virginia Minium.
She graduated from Gaston High School and studied at Winthrop College before marrying her childhood sweetheart, Whitelaw. She followed him all over the United States during his 28-year service in the Marine Corps. During this time, they had four children. Dot was mainly a homemaker and was very involved in her church. She loved the Lord & her Bible & was particularly fond of the Psalms. In addition, she was a second mother to her two youngest grandsons.
Dot is survived by her children, Walton Carson (Cindy), Patricia McClain (Larry), Gail Minium, and David Carson. In addition, there are her grandchildren, Heather Howell (Wade), Erin Holland (AJ Ruzicka), Josh Carson (Lauren), Amanda McClain, Amy Minium (Danny Shackelford), David Carson, & Paul Carson (Emily). Lastly, there are her great-grandchildren, Emily Ruzicka, Christopher Ruzicka, Annaliese Holland, Sarah Ruzicka, Marilyn Carson & Juliet Carson.
The Family would like to give a special thanks to the Staff of the Greens at Gastonia for their loving care of Dot in the final months of her life. They treated her with the utmost dignity & kindness that she deserved.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Dot's life will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 1:00 pm. at First ARP Church of Gastonia. The service will be conducted by Reverend Matt Kiuken. Following the service, the Family will greet guests in the Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First ARP Church Missions Fund.
