Julia Elizabeth (“Betty”) Boyter, age 93, of 914 Hwy 417, Moore, died Sunday, December 7 2025 at White Oak at North Grove after a long illness. The daughter of the late F. J. and Pauline J. Genoble, she was the wife of the late Charles T. Boyter for 67 years.
She is also survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and Steve Chastain of Moore; grandsons, Drew Chastain of Moore and Kent (Natalie) Chastain of Moore; great-grandsons, Tate, Will, and Avery Chastain; great-granddaughters, Katherine and Jovie Chastain; brothers, James Carroll (Jim) Genoble and the late Pat Genoble of Duncan, and Dean and Lynn Genoble of Woodruff; and several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Jean Genoble.
A native of Spartanburg County, she graduated from Duncan High School (1950), Winthrop University (1954), and Converse College (1968). She taught in Spartanburg Districts Five and Six, retiring from D. R. Hill Middle School. She and her husband owned and operated Poplar Springs Angus Farm for over 50 years. She was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church, where she was active in WMU, Sunday School, and the Joy Club. She was also active in the Spartanburg County Network WMU. She served as past president of the Spartanburg County and State Cattlewomen. In addition, she was coordinator for Route 661 Mobile Meals drivers and tutored in the AWARE program.
The service at the church will be conducted by Rev. Steve Genoble and Rev. Joey Burnett on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 2:00PM. A private burial will be held in the church cemetery prior to the formal service. Memorials may be made to Poplar Springs Baptist Church - Ramp Fund, P.O. Box 417, Moore, SC, or to Mobile Meals, P.O. Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
The family will be at their individual homes. We request privacy at this time as we grieve our loss. Thank you for your love and support.
