On Tuesday night, December 10, 2025, Elizabeth Brooks Carson received her ultimate healing as she was wrapped in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, following a short but valiant battle with cancer. She departed this temporary earthly home sweetly, quietly, and peacefully with her husband, Clay, and her sister, Celeste, by her bedside.
A native North Carolinian, Elizabeth was born in Rockingham but grew up in Raleigh. She was a long-time member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she was active in the youth group growing up and enjoyed singing on the Living Christmas Tree with her late dad, Jerry Brooks. After graduating from Sanderson High School, she continued her education at Coastal Carolina University before earning an associate's degree in interior design from Randolph Community College. Elizabeth applied her education and God-given gift for interior decorating at Allen Funk's Wallpaper in Raleigh, which she managed for several years up until her passing. Elizabeth possessed a unique talent for coordinating color and wallcoverings, and she used this gift to transform spaces into warm and inviting homes.
Through her hard work and caring service, she cultivated trusting and enduring relationships with her customers, installers, co-workers, and owners, who showed their love and support for her throughout this fight. Elizabeth treated every customer and colleague as if they were family. While she found great fulfillment in her career, it was her unwavering passion for animals that truly held her heart, a passion she got from her dad and shared with her husband, Clay.
Elizabeth was happiest relaxing outdoors on her screened-in back porch, listening to music while enjoying the company of her pets and the birds and bunnies that frequented her backyard sanctuary. Her other happy place when she could get away was Ocean Isle Beach, the setting for many treasured family memories throughout her life, including her marriage to Clay.
She did not shy away from hard work and never let not knowing how to do something stop her from trying. She inherited her dad's knack for just being able to figure out how to do things she had never done before. A woman of strong convictions, Elizabeth was fiercely independent, yet fiercely loyal to those she loved. She appreciated authenticity and honesty. She stated on her Facebook profile: "Life's too short to wake up with regrets. Love people who treat you right. Forget about the ones who don't."
Elizabeth is survived by her husband Clay Carson, mother Ann Randolph Brooks of Raleigh, sister Celeste Brooks Perretti (Mark) of Wake Forest, brother Todd Brooks (Maureen) of Raleigh, four nieces, Meghan Brooks Sanger (Brett) of Raleigh, Erin Brooks Paul (Christopher) of Matthews, Natalie Brooks of Raleigh, and Brooke Perretti of Charlotte, as well as one nephew Thomas Perretti of Wake Forest, cat Hendrix and dog Josie. She was preceded in death by her father Jerry Brooks, and her fur babies Kiska, Rusty, and Indy.
There will be a celebration of Elizabeth's life in the chapel of L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road,
Knightdale, North Carolina, at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 13, 2025, followed by a graveside service at 2:30 pm at Eastside Cemetery in Rockingham, North
