Dorothy Chesla, loving Wife, Mother, Aunt and Grammy, passed away on March 8, 2025, in the loving arms of her devoted husband of 54 years, surrounded by her adoring family.
Dorothy was born on March 20, 1950, in Shenandoah, PA. She graduated from Shenandoah Catholic High School in 1968, and at the top of her class at Nazareth School of Radiology in Philadelphia, PA in 1970.
She married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Louis Chesla on May 1, 1971, and they moved to Maryland shortly after that. Lou and Dorothy later welcomed two sons, Danny and Mark, whom kept them busy with just about every sport you can imagine, mainly soccer, wrestling and track. Dorothy was an x-ray technician for many years, before deciding to stay at home with her boys.
Dorothy was diagnosed and suffered with Rheumatoid Arthritis starting at 17 years old. She lived every day in pain but never complained. Her stoic endurance was a model, not only for her family, but also for those who encountered her spirit. She said her husband, Lou, "gave me hope every day to push through". He gave her that hope for over 60 years.
As Dorothy's RA progressed she was tended to by so many loving family and friends, but especially by her wonderful niece and caregiver, Danielle Decker.
Her greatest joy was becoming a Grammy. She adored her grandchildren and doted on them every chance she got. She fully took advantage of the adage, "The world needs Grandmas, cause those grandkids aren't going to spoil themselves." Her second favorite thing was anything sweet, especially chocolate.
Dorothy especially enjoyed vacations with family and friends to the Outer Banks, NC and the Eastern Shore.
First and foremost, she was grateful for her faith in Jesus, and her great joy in worshiping together with her husband and family.
Dorothy leaves behind her adoring husband of 54 years, Louis Chesla, sons Daniel (Shannon), and Mark (Megan), grandchildren, Kayla, Nathan, Eli, Christian, Luke and Alina. Also, her sister Sister Danielle Marie Kubelsky, and several nieces and nephews, and grand dogs Remy, Kanai and Tyson. Many dear family friends will miss her love of jazz music and chocolate.
Dorothy was predeceased in death by her parents, Daniel and Helen Kubelsky, sister Danielle Decker and her grandson Noah, all who welcomed her to Heaven with open arms.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in honor of Dorothy, to the Maryland Down Syndrome Advocacy Coalition. Donations made to DSAmd and earmarked specifically for MDAC.
