Richard "Dick" Vinal Littlefield passed away peacefully on June 10 th, 2025 in Annapolis, MD at the age of
94. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Born 1931 in Quincy, MA to Louise and Edwin
Littlefield. He was predeceased by his firstborn son. He is survived by his devoted wife Donna of 71
years, 5 children, 5 grandchildren, and many other family members.
Dick was a company commander and graduated as an Officer from the United States Coast Guard Academy in
1953. He then went on to obtain his master's degree from Harvard Business School. Dick had a rewarding 30-
year career at IBM where he held various leadership positions, positively shaping and impacting the careers
and lives of so many wonderful people. After retirement, he became a managing partner at Lerch, Early &
Brewer and ran his own Consulting business
.
Serving others was one of the passions in his life. He found roles serving as a Board Member at the Islands
Community Medical Center Vinalhaven, ME, a Deacon at Grace Presbyterian Church PCA Davidsonville, MD,
and many other roles extremely rewarding as he selflessly helped others. Dick initiated the formation of many
men's groups. Bringing people together, breaking down barriers, finding common ground, and building lasting
relationships were talents he cherished and excelled in.
Dick was also an accomplished sailor. He became a navigator onboard the Coast Guard vessel USCGC Bibb and
honed those learned boating skills into a passion for sailing. He combined his number one passion of family
with sailing to create a lifetime of memories for his family and friends. Other interests included photography,
watercolor painting, golfing with friends from Annapolis/Vinalhaven, and watching the Red Sox.
His true passion was his wife, family, and friends.
He was simply Maine's "finest kind"! He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered for a life well lived.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday June 28 th, 11:00am in Friendship Hall at Ginger Cove, 4000 River
Crescent Drive, Annapolis MD 21401.
An additional service will be held late summer in Vinalhaven, ME. *Date to be determined*
