Harry Sinclair Jr. Obituary

Harry Sinclair Jr., born October 22, 1943 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to Mary V. and Harry Sinclair Sr., died Sunday, July 20, 2025 at the home his daughter after a brief illness. Harry spent his early childhood in France, where his father was stationed with the Army. He returned to Gambrills, Maryland where he spent his youth as a fierce competitor playing baseball, football, basketball, and running track. He was a 1962 graduate of Arundel High School, and went on to study at Anne Arundel Community College and the University of Maryland. While at the University of Maryland, Harry made many lifelong friends while pledging the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. After being drafted in 1968, Harry went on to become an Army Ranger, and graduated as a Distinguished Military Graduate from Officer Candidate School. Harry had many assignments including 3rd Infantry Old Guard, Commander United Nations Command/United State Forces Korea 8th United States Army Honor Guard, Fort Stewart, Georgia, Fort Meade, Maryland, and the Pentagon.

Harry was an active community member and could often be found at the Maryland State Capitol or Anne Arundel County Executive meetings. He was a member of the Odenton Kiwanis club, Gambrills Athletic Club, and the Odenton Improvement Association. He put in many hours to help improve the Gambrills, Odenton, and Crofton area. Harry had an opinion about a lot of things, and you usually did not have to wonder what that opinion was.

Harry loved to support his only daughter, Heather, in her plethora of sports, and never missed a game. He often left the Pentagon early, and would speed down I-95 to catch a weekday lacrosse game at Randolph-Macon College. He also loved to support his grandchildren in all their sporting activities. He loved old cars and loved to tinker on his old Mercedes. Harry loved to do his own home improvements, much to his wife's dismay. He learned to lay tile while in college, and used this trade to rehab the bathrooms and kitchen in the families first home in Odenton. He also loved to garden, growing tomatoes and cucumbers. As he got older, he would help Heather with her vegetable garden, giving advice on fertilizing, watering and pruning.

He is survived by his daughter Heather(Anthony) and four grandchildren: Hayden, Elaina, Ellis and Evan. The oldest of 5 children, Harry was predeceased by his brother Robert, and survived by his brother Dennis(Jane), and sisters Mary(Randy) and Patricia(Larry) as well as many nieces and nephews. Harry lost his wife of over 50 years, Janine Waldron Sinclair, May 30, 2023.

Visitation will be Friday, August 1, 2025 9am-10:30am at Hardesty Funeral Home-Gambrills. Mass and luncheon to follow at 11am at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church in Millersville. Committal will be at a later date.
