Dorothy M. Ciocca, age 87, passed away peacefully at home on September 28, 2025. Born on November 12, 1937, in Amherst, Ohio to the late George and Rose (Gilles) Roling, she graduated from Amherst High School in the class of 1955. Dorothy was employed by The Thew Shovel Company of Lorain, Ohio before marrying and moving to the Akron, Ohio area where she devoted her life to raising and supporting her family.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving and dedicated husband of 59 years, Felix Ciocca, sister and brother-in-law Paul and Rose Mary (Roling) Hogrefe, brother and sister-in-law Ralph and Lois (Faragher) Roling, brothers George “Dutch” Roling and Glenn Roling, and brothers-in-law Allan Jungbluth and Samuel Ciocca.
Dorothy’s greatest legacy is her family. She was fiercely supportive of the educational, professional, and personal accomplishments of all family members. She proudly raised five children in partnership with Felix, and later in life found exceptional joy supporting and celebrating her ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Dorothy excelled in the kitchen, hosting many family celebrations with Felix for family and friends who enjoyed her signature dishes and welcoming hospitality. In their retirement years, Dorothy and Felix also enjoyed ballroom dancing, cruise vacations, and exploring many restaurants across northeastern Ohio. Dorothy was a woman of great faith who prayed the rosary often. Above all else, Dorothy loved and treasured spending quality time with her continually growing family. Wise, thoughtful, and loving, Dorothy would often share in her unique style of wit “I haven’t lived all these years for nothing!”
Dorothy is survived by her son John (Michele), daughter Ann (Glenn), son Jim (Annie), daughter Elaine Yuhos (Christopher) and son David; grandchildren Lauren Gardner (Joshua), Leann Street (Michael), Alex, Angela Zimmerman (Mark), and Zac (John and Michele’s children); grandchildren Becky McClanahan (Brett), Paul (Rachael), Randy (Valerie) (Jim and Annie’s children); grandsons Michael and Anthony Yuhos (Elaine and Christopher’s children); great-grandchildren Lincoln, Harrison, and Monroe (Lauren and Joshua’s children), Maverick (Leann and Michael’s son), Quinn (Becky & Brett’s daughter), Adriana, James, and Emilia (Paul and Rachael’s children), and Leland (Randy and Valerie’s son). Dorothy was joyfully awaiting the birth of three more great-grandchildren in the coming months. Dorothy will be greatly missed by her sister Agnes (Roling) Jungbluth, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Family members and friends will be received on Friday, October 3rd from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home (547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron Ohio 44312). Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 4th at Queen of Heaven Parish (1800 Steese Road, Uniontown, Ohio 44685) at 10:00 a.m. Father David R. Durkee, Pastor, will be presiding. (Note: There will be no procession from the funeral home to the church before Mass). Burial procession will follow to Greenwood Cemetery in Mogadore.
