Dorothy Seymore Countiss, age 86, passed on Thursday, December 14, 2023, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. Dorothy was a member of Greenfield Baptist Church in Meadowview, VA. She worked as a hairdresser in her younger years and continued to cut hair for friends and family. She also held a newspaper route for many years.
Dorothy was known for her sewing skills, including outfits for her granddaughter, curtains, and most especially Christmas stockings. Refinishing furniture was another hobby in which she excelled. Her best skills were being a mom and mommaw.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Martha Taylor Seymore; husband, William Franklin “W.F.” Countiss; three sisters; and five brothers.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Richard Franklin Countiss; daughter, Patricia Ann Barb and husband Mark; brother, Sam Seymore; grandchildren, Thomas Barb and Caroline Barb; sister-in-law, Stella Seymore; friend, Carol Tench; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 18, 2023, in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Daniel Birchfield officiating.
