Dorothy Ann Drake, 91, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Adel Acres Nursing Home in Adel.
Ann was born on April 9, 1934, to Eugene and Helen (Holmes) Drake. She graduated from Winterset High School and was a dedicated lifelong learner.
Ann earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and pursued a career in nursing. Her commitment to service extended beyond her profession as she proudly served her country in the United States Air Force as a Captain during the Vietnam era from 1963 to 1966. While stationed in Guam as a flight nurse, she cared for wounded soldiers during transport flights to the United States. Following her military service, she continued to use her expertise to benefit others, later working for the State of Iowa as a Nursing Home Inspector.
Ann’s life was marked by compassion, strength, and an unwavering sense of duty.
A graveside memorial service will be held in the spring at the Winterset Cemetery.
