Dorothy Fleury Obituary
Dorothy Diane "Dortha Ann" (Barge) Fleury, 65, passed away at home on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. She was the beloved wife of Edward Fleury of Woonsocket, Rhode Island. Born on September 11, 1959, in Phenix City, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Elijah and Mary (Barge) Jones.
As a young child, Dorothy and her siblings moved to Boston, Massachusetts, after the passing of their mother. During her teenage years, Dorothy gave birth to her first son, who was taken from her. In the late 1970s, she married Salako Derek Hamilton and had two daughters during their marriage. However, they separated in 1987, and Dorothy became a single parent, raising her daughters independently. In 2001, she was reunited with her firstborn son, and the family enjoyed two decades filled with highlights, milestones, and celebrations together. On June 2, 2002, Dorothy remarried Edward Fleury, and they settled in Woonsocket for the remainder of her life.
She attended Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) for childcare development and data entry. It was a proud moment for her and her family when she obtained her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification and passed the state exam. Dorothy was a nurse's aide for Hopedale Manor, an assisted living and retirement community. She was passionate about helping people and was gentle, soft-spoken, and kind-hearted. Dorothy enjoyed watching her favorite comedy TV shows and listening to 70s soul music, such as the O'Jays. She also loved being outdoors, going for walks, shopping, and collecting dolls and various knickknacks. She was incredibly resourceful in putting her life together despite childhood challenges and how she cared for her family. Dorothy loved looking good and feeling her best, lighting up any room with her infectious laugh. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son, Nathan Landers and his wife Brooke of Canton, Massachusetts; her daughters, Meka Gendron and her husband Glen, and Keyla Hamilton, both of Woonsocket, Rhode Island; her step-sons, Vincent Livant of Worcester, Massachusetts; and Jeremy Fleury of Exeter, New Hampshire; Her brother, Henry Lee (Barge) Parker of Boston, MA; her sister, Patricia Porter and her husband Bernard of Radcliff, Kentucky; seven grandchildren; Kayliana Hamilton, Savannah Landers, Jaxon Landers, Daneta Fleury, Julian Seguinot, Evander Gomes, and Emmanuel Gomes; and five great-grandchildren. Her late sister, Marynell Reed, from Columbus, Georgia, and her late stepdaughter, Rena Beth Fleury of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, preceded her in death.
Her service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Holt Funeral Home, 510 S Main St., Woonsocket, Rhode Island. Visitation will begin at 1 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:30 PM.
