Dorothy Martell Elizabeth Hawbaker, age 55, of St. Thomas, PA, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, surrounded by her closest loved ones at WellSpan York Hospital. She was the devoted wife of Joel David Hawbaker, age 57, also of St. Thomas, PA.
Born on October 1, 1969, in Tacoma, WA, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Dorothy was the daughter of Donna B. (Swope) Lutzow and the late Donald V. Lutzow. She spent most of her early years in Fulton and Franklin Counties and made Franklin County her home for much of her adult life. Dorothy earned her GED from James Buchanan High School and went on to build a successful career in logistics, spanning more than 20 years. Most recently, she served as a Quality Assurance Manager at Syncreon in Carlisle, PA.
In addition to her husband of 25 years, Dorothy is survived by her eldest son, Brandon L. Driscoll, and his wife, Deb, of Hagerstown, MD; and her youngest son, Daniel V.A. Driscoll, and his wife, Alicia, of Chambersburg, PA. She was the proud grandmother of four: Jack and Lily Driscoll of Hagerstown, and Reagan and Charlotte Driscoll of Chambersburg. She was also joyfully anticipating the arrival of her fifth grandchild, Madilynn Driscoll, expected in September 2025. Dorothy is further survived by her mother, Donna, two brothers, and one sister.
She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Lutzow, and her stepson, Dakota Hawbaker.
Dorothy loved the outdoors and was never afraid to get her hands dirty. She enjoyed working on home improvement projects with her husband, relaxing by the pool, or spending time in the garage with her Great Dane, Smokey. Above all, she cherished time well spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, and took great pride in being the best “Meme” she could be.
A private celebration of life will be held by the family on August 15, 2025. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society through their official donation website.
