Dorothy Sue Heavin

With heavy hearts the families of Matt Heavin, Linda Simpson, and Scott Heavin announce the passing of their beloved mother, Dorothy Heavin on October 7, 2025.
Dorothy was born on August 12, 1931 in Wichita, KS at the home of her Aunt Opal to Paul and Ella (Morgan) Detter. She graduated high school in Madison, KS and a business academy in Wichita. She married the love of her life, Donald W. Heavin on June 27, 1959 and together they built a beautiful life in Cyril centered around family, faith, and service.
A faithful member of the First Christian Church, Dorothy shared her gifts generously by teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and serving as the church pianist. Her love of music and faith filled the sanctuary and inspired those around her.
Dorothy also served her community as the longtime operator of the Cyril Tag Agency for over 30 years. Known for her kindness and integrity, she greeted everyone with a smile and a warm heart.
After her children were grown, she continued her education at the University of Oklahoma and embraced her love of travel, exploring Europe and many places beyond. She was an adventurous spirit, always eager to learn, see, and experience new things.
Survivors include her sister Pauline Cobb of Cantonment, FL, sister-in-law Marilyn Lair of Frisco, TX, her children Matt Heavin and wife Kim Bartko of Millbrook, NY, Linda Simpson and husband Scott of Norman, OK, and Scott Heavin and wife Lana of Fletcher, OK; grandchildren Marcus Simpson, Sally Simpson and partner Michael Smith; great grandchildren Olivia and Mila Simpson, and Aiden Smith; beloved cousin Donna Jean Wallingford; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don, her parents Paul and Ella Detter, sisters Marjorie Gaines, Marilyn Smith, and Colleen Whitfield.
Those who knew Dorothy will remember her for her joyful outlook, her compassion for others, and her steadfast faith. She was a friend to the friendless and a voice for those who were forgotten or mistreated, always choosing kindness and understanding over conflict.
Graveside services will be held under the direction of Fletcher Funeral Home at Celestial Gardens Cemetery in Cyril, OK on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 11 AM.
