Shirley Jean Fry, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, in Lawton, Oklahoma. She was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Pleasy and Helen (Vycital) Fowler.
Shirley grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and graduated from Tulsa Central High School. It was there that she caught the eye of her future husband, Bill Fry, when he saw her perform a tap dance at school-a spark that led to a marriage spanning 65 wonderful years. Shirley and Bill were married on April 28, 1951, and made their home in Sperry, Oklahoma, where they raised their family and lived until 2015, when they moved to Lawton to be closer to their daughters.
A woman of faith and dedication, Shirley was an active member of Sperry Christian Church. She taught Sunday School, cared for children in the nursery, and joyfully volunteered at Vacation Bible School. Known for her warm heart and open door, Shirley had a special gift for caring for children-both her own and the many other kids who loved spending time in her home. Countless memories were made in her kitchen, especially while baking cookies together.
Those who knew Shirley often said there has never been a more positive and kind person. She never spoke a bad word about anyone and carried herself with a grace and gentleness that inspired everyone around her.
She was also known for her sweet tooth-ice cream and chocolate chip cookies were her favorites. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, finding her greatest joy in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill Fry; her brother, Dick; two sisters, Edythe and Pat; her son-in-law, Rick Myers; and a great-granddaughter, Kali Williams.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Judy Myers of Fletcher, Kathy Craft and Jay of Lawton, and Debbie Fletcher and Kent of Fletcher; grandchildren: Kari Williams and Sean, Amber Bolding and Austin, Amy Corter and David, Katelyn Bates and Chris, Rebecca Craft, Jessica Craft, Ryan Fletcher and Megan, Erin Blancett and Dexter, and Luke Fletcher and Rebecca; and her great-grandchildren: Allison, Audrey, Abigail, and Avery Corter; Aiden, Anna, Aaric, and Ashlyn Bolding; Olivia Sheppard, and Nixon Williams; Charlie, Shepherd, Burke, and Jack Fletcher; and Thea and Sophie Blancett.
Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Fletcher Cemetery with Pastor Adam Stang officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to greet friends and guests.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to: Sperry Christian Church (P.O. Box 549 Sperry, Oklahoma, 74073).
Shirley will be remembered for her love of family, her devotion to her faith, and the unwavering kindness she shared with everyone around her.
