Dorothy Holloway Martin Obituary

Dorothy A. Martin, a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on December 7, 2024, at her home in Floyds Knobs, Indiana, surrounded by her cherished family. She was born on March 13, 1931, in Louisville, Kentucky, Dorothy led a life filled with warmth, kindness, and an unwavering love her family.

Dorothy's passion for cooking began early in life as she worked along the Gulf of Mexico in South Louisiana. This passion blossomed further when she returned to Indiana, where she continued to share her culinary talents as a cook for ACBL on the Ohio River. Food was not simply sustenance for Dorothy; it was a way to express her love and generosity, always ensuring that family and friends were well-fed and cared for.

Dorothy was a woman of many wonderful traits-thoughtful and kind to everyone, she often lent a helping hand to strangers. Her gentle spirit touched all those who had the fortune of knowing her. Beyond her love for cooking, she enjoyed spending precious moments with her children and grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of her life. She found happiness in horseback riding, dancing, camping, and caring for stray animals, as well as nurturing strong bonds with her siblings.

Dorothy's legacy of love is carried on by her daughter, Brenda (Farris Rice) Martin, daughter, Julie (Ritchie) Saylor, son, Terry Martin, son, David (Kathy) Martin, son, Danny Martin, son, Michael (Lisa) Martin, and her nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, John (Esther) Holloway, brother, Wayne Holloway, sister, Lila (Larry) Fetters, sister, Mary Holloway, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her son, Steven Martin, and grandson, Christopher Martin. Dorothy also mourned the loss of her dear parents, Carl and Jessie Holloway, and her sister-in-law, Janet Holloway.

Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Dorothy’s remarkable life during a visitation on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 6:00 PM, both held at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN 47150.

In honoring Dorothy's life, let us remember her enduring spirit, her kindness towards others, and the love that she so graciously shared with those around her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

The Family would like to give a special thank you to Southerncare Hospice and all the staff. The kind and friendly nurses that has been there to help Dorothy and the family will always have a special place in their hearts. 

The family requests that contributions in Dorothy’s memory be made to Floyd County Animal Shelter or SouthernCare Hospice.
