Dorothy Jean Medley Huskey peacefully passed into the gates of Heaven at the age of 93 on October 22, 2025, at Elk River Health and Nursing Center in Winchester, TN, after a short illness. A loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was born on December 23, 1931, in Beans Creek, TN, the oldest of three children born to Floyd L. Medley, Sr. and Rosa Brewer Medley. Mrs. Huskey grew up in Francisco, AL, and attended school at Beech Grove Elementary School and Huntland Schools. At age 14, she met the love of her life and the person with whom she would build a family, Buford L. Huskey. Two years later they married in October of 1947, raised six children, and maintained a special marriage for more than 62 years before his passing in 2010. Her life can best be described by three words-family, faith, and friends-she experienced an abundance of each. Jean and her husband raised a large family of their own, maintained an even larger extended family, and after her children were grown and new family members added, she also helped raise children of other close friends. Her pride and joys were her 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren having a special bond with each of them. She especially enjoyed large family gatherings at her home for any occasion, holidays or just visits, and always had plenty of good food, toys, and hugs. Jean's faith was so very important to her throughout her life, and she was a lifelong member of Beech Grove Methodist Church in Francisco, AL, until her health prevented her from physically attending. She enjoyed reading and gospel music throughout her life and read her Bible and devotionals daily, but more importantly, she practiced her faith-always kind, loving, soft spoken, caring, and the epitome of a true and faithful servant to her Lord. Jean was a special friend to all who knew her; she created a large and long-term network of friends during her life and always kept them in her prayers, prayer lists, and thoughts. She was affectionately known as "Mama Jean" and "Ms. Jean" by many, and she loved sending cards and telephone well-wishes to her friends and family members. Mrs. Huskey was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Rosa Medley; her husband, Buford L. Huskey, Sr.; her sister, Earline Mitchell; and grandson, Jason Huskey. She is survived by her six children, Buford Huskey, Jr., of Kelso, TN; Bruce (Alice) Huskey of Tullahoma, TN; Debbie (Clyde) Gibson of Madison, AL; Michael (Sandra) Huskey of Gainesville, VA; Mark (Michelle) Huskey of Belvidere, TN; and Kathy (Grady) Wilkinson of Huntland, TN; her brother, Floyd Medley, Jr. and sister-in-law Ann of Ponte Vedra, FL; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of special nieces and nephews. They will all miss her sweet smile and special hugs. Visitation with the family will be held at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester, TN, on Monday, October 27, 2025, from 11am-2pm. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Interment will be at Beech Grove Cemetery in Francisco, AL, following the funeral.
