Dorothy Ann Lumpkin, 69, of West Hartford, went home peacefully on Sunday, September 24, 2023. She was born March 26, 1954, in Hartford, Connecticut, to the late Richie P. (Sopsher) Lumpkin and Pete Lumpkin. She was a lifelong resident of the Hartford area. She was educated in the Hartford public school system. Dorothy was a homemaker and worked for the city of Hartford during voter registration.
Dorothy was a woman who loved being with her family, playing cards, and visiting casinos in the area. She has taken a big piece of our hearts with her and she will be truly missed. She was a kind and compassionate mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by two sons, Gary L. Lumpkin (Nyla) and James L. Lumpkin (Hope), both of Hartford, Connecticut; Glen L. Ford, her spouse and best friend of 38 years and beloved sister-in-law, Roxanne Jackson; Six grandchildren, Indya, Jamie and Evan Lumpkin; Tahvon Sr., Djuan Jr and Deyanna Cobb; two brothers, Ronald J. Lumpkin (Karen) of East Hartford and Nehemiah Harper (Carol) of Springfield, MA. Three sisters, Jeanette Lumpkin, of Hartford Lynette F. Stewart (Willie) of Bloomfield and Elnora Smith (Lloyd) of Springfield, MA.; Three best friends; Willena "Red" Hardie, Ethel Jeanette Hudson and Debra Herndon. She also leaves a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and friends to mourn her passing.
She was predeceased by her parents Richie P. (Sopsher) Lumpkin and Pete Lumpkin; brothers; Edward Lumpkin and Curtis Lumpkin; a sister Pauline Lumpkin Witherspoon and Great Grandchild, Storie Williams.
