Dorothy Sharon Morris
February 8, 1943 - September 1, 2025
Dorothy "Sharon" Morris, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away on September 1, 2025, at the age of 82.
Sharon lived a full and colorful life marked by her deep love for family, her strong work ethic, and her creative spirit. She loved horses-especially her wild mustangs-cowboy boots and cowboys, country music, crime documentaries, Court TV, and her lifelong fascination with Civil War and Native American history. Above all, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life.
A true craftsman, Sharon could fix or create just about anything. Her thrifty and resourceful nature made her a master of DIY projects, floral arrangements, sewing, gardening, arts and crafts, and even painting. She poured her creativity into every corner of life.
She wore many hats in motherhood as a"gymnastics mom," "dance mom," and "soccer mom" to not only her kids, but to over a thousand more across the years. Whether cheering from the sidelines or helping behind the scenes, Sharon made every child feel special.
In the kitchen, Sharon was famous for her cooking. Her tomato sauce, pasta salad, and crab dip were family favorites-though her middle son would jokingly say she put "horrors" in her pasta, the rest of the family knew the truth: Grammy's food was always the best. Sharon wouldn't hesitate to make any sacrifices needed to provide for her children. She was known to even pawn silver spoons from her collection to a local antique store to put food on the table.
Throughout her career, Sharon's work reflected her grit and compassion. She worked at Roy Rogers, BSAS, and at Damascus House, where her clients-often arriving in handcuffs-came to respect and even affectionately call her the "Dragon Lady." She also pursued higher education at Essex Community College, earning her Associate's Degree, and went on to become a Federally Certified Addictions Counselor, helping countless individuals on their road to recovery.
She is survived by her five children-Michelle Griffin, Melvin Morris, Jenifer Morris, Charles Morris, and Steven (Joy) Morris-along with her grandchildren: Dorothy Morris, Caeleigh Griffin, Maura Griffin, Joshua Derby, Benjamin Tharpe, Lydia Morris, Nolan Morris, Logan Morris, and Brenna Morris. Sharon was also a doting great-grandmother to her four great-grandchildren.
To those who knew her best, she was simply "Grammy." She was the one with the biggest heart, the warmest hugs, the wisest advice, and the yummiest food. She was a safe place full of love, laughter, and treats-a best friend forever. There is now a Grammy-sized hole in our hearts until we see her again in heaven.
