Dorothy Jean Embry, born April 19, 1928, entered her Heavenly rest surrounded by the love of her family. Dorothy was the daughter of Cliff and Vera Norris, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray Embry; her siblings Jewel, Joyce, Dallas, Bobby, and Patsy; her granddaughters Jacquelyn and Molly Rose; and her cherished pet, Max.
Dorothy's early life and marriage took her across the country, living in Detroit, Boston, Michigan, and Tampa. A proud graduate of Morgantown High School class of 1947, she continued her education at Draughon's Business College in Nashville. Over the years, she worked for the State of Tennessee in the Bookkeeping Department, at Borden, IBM, and in several medical offices. Eventually, she joyfully embraced her role as a "domestic diva," pouring her gifts into her home and family.
Upon retirement, Dorothy returned to her beloved Morgantown, settling into a cozy log cabin nestled among 50 acres of woods-a home lovingly built for her by her son, Dave. There, she thrived in the peace of country living. A woman of remarkable talents, Dorothy was an avid gardener who cultivated a one-acre garden, an expert seamstress, a gifted vocalist, a wonderful baker-especially known for her bread-and a patient teacher of all things practical and meaningful. Before dementia touched her mind, she faithfully prayed daily for God's protection over every member of her family.
Dorothy is survived by her devoted children: Jeanne (Keith) Kilbourn, Dave (Penny) Embry, Kay (Stan) Logsdon, and Lisa (Jack) Stoess. She was "Grandma" and "Grammy" to Kris, Jared, Jacquelyn, Jennifer, Jacob, Molly, and Alex, and was blessed with several great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, and great-great grandchildren. A special acknowledgment goes to her great-granddaughter Hannah, whose love, care, and companionship were a comfort to Dorothy during the first years of her dementia journey.
Dorothy's life was defined by devotion-to her faith, her family, and the simple joys of home. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she loved, taught, nurtured, and prayed over every single day.
Dorothy chose cremation with inurnment at Bowling Green Gardens. J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Chapels has been entrusted with arrangements.
