Dorothy Ann (Gedling) Payne, age 82 of Jeffersonville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, after a courageous 20+ year battle with COPD.

Dorothy was born on March 15, 1943, to the late Edward D. and Dorothy A. (Dooley) Gedling. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Edward L. "Eddie" and Richard "Dickie" Gedling; her sister, Delores "Dody" Gedling; nieces, Melissa Broady, Tina Martin, Debbie Riley, and Dana Stinnett; and nephew, Robbie Payne.

Dorothy is survived by her devoted husband and constant companion of 63 years, Bill Payne; her loving children, Billy Payne (Sheri) and Teresa Pfau (Chip); and her treasured grandchildren, Billy Payne, Michael Grim, Claire Grim, and Charlie Pfau, whom she cherished and loved eternally.

A graduate of Jeffersonville High School and St. Joseph Infirmary School of Practical Nursing, Dorothy dedicated more than 30 years to Clark Memorial Hospital, where she lovingly cared for babies in the nursery. Nurturing and raising children was her true passion, a gift she carried both in her professional life and in her role as a mother & grandmother.

Dorothy was a music lover and loved to hear the Oak Ridge Boys and Alabama. She enjoyed following sports-especially cheering on Indiana basketball. She and Bill shared many wonderful adventures traveling together, creating cherished memories with family, friends, and especially their grandchildren. Her life was grounded in her unwavering faith. A devout Nazarene, Dorothy spoke daily with God, read her Bible faithfully, and carried Psalm 23, "The Lord is my Shepherd," in her heart as her favorite verse. She held firmly to the promise of everlasting life and longed for the day she would walk with Jesus. Dorothy's love, devotion, and gentle spirit will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Visitation will be held from 2–6 PM on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Scott Funeral Home (2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville). A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at Scott Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
