Dorothy Sheppeard, 83, of Duncan, Oklahoma passed away unexpectedly after a short illness. She was born to Jessie H and Gertrude (Burkleo) George in Comanche, OK on November 10, 1941. She attended school at Central High and graduated from Empire High School in 1960.
Dorothy was one of Empire's glamorous girls. She was called "Twinkle Toes" and now appearing in "She Ate The Daisies Coming Home From the Hills."
She married the love of her life, Leon Sheppeard, on July 29, 1960 in Wichita Falls, TX. They celebrated 65 years of marriage. To this union were born 3 beautiful daughters, Rhonda, Dana and Teresa. In addition to her 3 daughters was her beautiful niece, Tywana Ogle.
Dorothy was a long-time member of Banner Assembly of God which has been known as Cornerstone Assembly of God for the past several years now. For many years she printed the church bulletins and taught a Sunday School class. She would also sing a special song occasionally.
While the girls were in school, she was one who was brave enough to be a band chaperone. She was a very skilled homemaker who sewed beautifully. She made outfits for the girls, bridesmaid dresses, wedding hats and many garments. She learned how to make Memorial Day wreaths at church. Eventually she opened her own business "All Occasion Wreaths". She also traveled to Cayuga, Tx and taught others how to make these beautifully flowered wreaths, sprays, saddles and vase arrangements.
She was a great Nana to a very special grandson. She was dedicated to making his day memorable while his mom and dad worked. So many good memories.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 65 years, Leon Sheppeard of the home; her daughters Rhonda and husband David Fullerton of Duncan, OK; Dana Owens of Duncan, OK and friend Harry Frasher of Eufaula, OK; Teresa and husband Harley Willcox of Malakoff, TX; grandson Jarrod Owens of Tulsa, OK; and brother "Cubby" William George of Duncan, OK; sisters Ruth Norton and Carolyn Phillips of Duncan, OK; Laura Williams and Linda Bates of Chickasha, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie & Gertrude George; sisters Viola Barber; brothers Gerold George, James & wife Peggy George, "Sonny" Aarman & wife Peggy George; nephews Larry George, Toby Norton, Roy Allen George and niece Stacy George.
Pallbearers will be David Haney, Martin Leckel, Korre Moore, Bill Bunn, and Collin Quinn. Honorary pallbearers are Harry Frasher, Dan Fletcher, David Fullerton, and Harley Willcox.
