Dorothy Meder Walizer of Gulf Breeze, joined her sailor and was called home to be with God in Heaven, dying peacefully at home on 23 June 2024.
Born in the Bronx, New York on 18 August 1928, she met the love of her life, Daryl, a Merchant Mariner Engineering Officer, and they married on April 10, 1954. Her sailor came ashore in 1956 and they moved to Bristol, Pennsylvania raising two children. Upon retirement, they relocated to DeLand Florida in 1988 and she and her husband traveled the country in their fifth wheel camper, visiting all 48 states during numerous rallies and tours. They were active in the Gold Coast Travelers, North Florida Panhandlers, and Sunshine Travelers Chapters of the Carriage Travel Club. After walking together hand in hand for 59 years, Daryl was called home and she moved to Gulf Breeze, Florida to be closer to her sister, Frances Murphy.
She is survived by her daughter, Captain Dorothy Walizer, US Navy (retired); son, Daryl; grandson, Andrew; sister-in law, Dorothea Meder; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that you take your mother or someone you hold dear out to dinner to celebrate the life and wisdom of the women that brought us into the world.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on 15 July at 11 AM at St. Ann Parish in Gulf Breeze with interment to follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
