Dortha Dewitt, 104, of Sabinal, formerly of Red Rock, Texas passed away on July 5, 2025, at her residence.Dortha was born on July 19, 1920, in Haskell, Texas to Willie (Cooner) and FM Benton.
Viewing will be held on July 18, 2025 at 1 p.m. with a funeral service at 2 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Sabinal. Interment will follow at Sabinal Cemetery.
Dortha found joy in tending her garden and spent many hours quilting and crocheting beautiful pieces for her loved ones. She was a woman of faith who loved reading her Bible and Louis L’Amour books.
Dortha married Virgil DeWitt on July 16,1939 in Sabinal, Texas.
Dortha is survived by two sons, Ramon DeWitt of Red Rock and Leon (CJ) DeWitt of Redding, California; two brothers, John Benton and Bill Benton; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 19 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dortha is preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Dewitt; daughter, Fairy Lea Dickson and her husband, Bill; three brothers, Olin Benton, Jessie Benton, Jerry Benton; and grandchildren, Greg Dickson, and Kathy Dickson
Family would like to thank Concho Hearts Hospice of Phlugerville for their compassionate care. The loving care of Mischelle, Yetzybel and Nurse Lory and team was priceless.
