Our precious mother, Dortha Mae Hill Paschall, age 88, passed away on January 24, 2025. Dortha was born in Knoxville, TN on April 3, 1936, to Alfred Maynard Hill and Edna Aretha Troutman Hill. She attended school in Knoxville and then in Chicago, IL. While in Chicago, she was introduced to Franklin D. Paschall by J.W and Carlene Stephenson. Frank and Dortha were married in 1952. They were married 64 years until his death in 2017.
Dortha and Frank owned and operated Paschall’s Department Store and Paschall Real Estate. Dortha was also co-owner of Peabody Place for many years. Upon retirement as a realtor, Dortha devoted her time to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Dortha, also known to many as grandmother and mommy Dot, will leave a legacy of her talents for cooking, sewing, and sharing kindness to all. Left to cherish these memories of her beautiful life are her children, Gary (Debbie) Paschall, Sharon (David) Sewell, and David (Tammy) Paschall. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jonathan (Amy) Paschall, Amanda (Michael) Bradberry, Savannah (John Paul) Pannell, and Rebecca Lee. Her surviving great-grandchildren are Emily Bradberry, Lakyn (Chantz) Book, Luke Bradberry, Aiden Bradberry, Parker Paschall, Sara JoLynn Paschall, Gavin Paschall, Emerson Pannell, and Harrison Pannell. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-laws, and her special best friend and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Dahlstrom. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Mary Evelyn Sanders; and son, Alfred “Sonny” Paschall.
Dortha was a member of the Northside Church of Christ in Trenton. As Mommy Dot always said, “I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck”. She loved many and many loved her.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 2PM in the chapel of Karnes and Son Funeral Home in Rutherford. Visitation will begin at 12PM and go until service time at 2PM. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Dyer.
