It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dorthy Johnson, who left this world on February 25, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on August 16, 1930, in Smithfield, Kentucky, Dorthy was the beloved daughter of William Pinkany Henson and Virginia Vane Whittaker. She lived a full and vibrant life, touching the hearts of all who knew her with her kindness, generosity, and infectious spirit.

Dorthy was known as the life of the party, always bringing joy and laughter wherever she went. She had a zest for life that was unmatched, whether she was tending to her beloved garden, singing her favorite songs, or quilting beautiful creations for her family and friends. Her hands were never idle, and her heart was always open.

Family was the cornerstone of Dorthy’s life, and she cherished every moment spent with those she loved. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, offering a loving hand and compassionate heart to all who needed it.

Dorthy was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church. Her deep faith in God guided her through every challenge, and she found strength and peace in her religious beliefs. She used those religious beliefs to help others as well. She was a proud member of Women on a Mission (WOAM), raising awareness for women who have been abused or subjected to violence. She was also a member of the Red Hat Club, encouraging women to live life to the fullest and celebrate sisterhood.

Dorthy will be remembered not only for her unwavering love for her family but also for the many ways she brought joy to those around her. Her legacy of love, faith, and joy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Dorthy is preceded in death by her husband, James Clay Johnson; parents, William Pinkany Henson and Virginia Vane Whittaker; 2 daughters, Delores Jane Garett and April Lynn Hill; and 1 son, James Clay Johnson.

Left to cherish her memory, Dorthy is survived by her 5 children, John William Johnson (Debra), Ernest Wayne Johnson (Sherry), Rebecca Elizabeth Johnson, Joseph Shane Johnson (Michelle), and Raymond Eugene Johnson (Melissa); 24 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and close friends.
