Dorthy Torno Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home - Lewisville on Feb. 17, 2026.
Dorthy Jean Torno, 68, entered into eternal rest in the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 11, 2026. Born on January 30, 1958, near West Columbia, Texas, to George and Jan Humphrey. She graduated as valedictorian of the Columbia High School Class of 1976, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Texas A&M University in 1980. During her years at A&M-and throughout her life-she nurtured deep, abiding friendships that remained a source of joy and support. Personal interests included watching football, especially A&M football, and playing cards with her friends and family.

Dorthy was an avid songwriter who found joy at the piano, composing hymns that reflected her deep faith and love toward others. Among her most cherished pieces were the songs she wrote for each of her ten grandchildren. She attended the hymn-writing class at the singing school in eastern Oklahoma for many years and took pride in guiding each of her sons to become song leaders. Devoted to her church family, she taught children's and ladies' Bible classes, cared for the elderly and those in need, and delighted in sharing her homemade peach jam with everyone she knew.

Her greatest pride was her three sons-their faithfulness to the Lord, their families, and their character. Dorthy delighted in her grandchildren and poured herself into their lives every day-helping, instructing, reading books, teaching swimming lessons, and playing board games from morning to night. Her ten grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she thanked God for them continually.

Above all, Dorthy loved the Lord and lived faithfully according to His Word.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Jan Humphrey; brothers-in-law, Gary Day, Dale Frankum, Gary Rhodes, Paul Carr, and Don Torno; and sisters-in-law, Linda Torno, Joy Torno, Kay Carr, and Annie Torno.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Tim Dale Torno; her father, George Harvey Humphrey; her sons, Taylor Winston Torno and wife Elyse, Nathan Bradley Torno and wife Sarah, and Trey Glen Torno and wife Cayla; her sisters, Charlotte Day, Gladys Frankum, Nancy Stephens, and Georgeann Rhodes; and her beloved grandchildren, Noah, Evelyn, Daniel, Jude, Elinor, Jo, Eden, Peter, Luke, and James Torno. She is also survived by brothers-in-law Ray Torno, Warren Miller, and Keith Stephens, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family, and friends.

Psalm 116:115 - "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints."

Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Besselman, Chuck Hester, Leo Vassar, Cody Chesser, Bud Holmes, Darren Martin, Chris Tarver, Eric Lawrence, Russ Gage, Nelson Bush, Kyle Schlabach, Ryan Matney, Tim Payne, Wade Casey, Zach Kelsey, and Jason Finn.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 22, 2026, at 2:30 p.m., with visitation from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., at Mulkey Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville.
