With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Dorothy Bell Weaver Sturgill, better known as "Dot", age 78, of West Jefferson who passed away Monday evening, February 10, 2025, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Dorothy left this world peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, whose lives she touched so deeply.
Mrs. Sturgill was born in Ashe County on October 16, 1946, to the late Wilborn Clayborn and Violet Owen Weaver. Dot graduated from Lansing High School. She married the love of her life Vincion "Dallas" Sturgill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincion "Dallas" Sturgill, a brother, Kenneth Clay Weaver, a stepson, Vincion Dallas Sturgill, Jr. (Van), a stepdaughter, Linda Willard and a step grandson, James Houck.
Dorothy was a woman of remarkable strength, grace, and wisdom. A savvy businesswoman, she owned and operated Sturgill Tree Farms and Double A Boot Store, with her husband Dallas. She did so with unwavering dedication, leaving a legacy through her work and the values she instilled in her family. She had a profound love for the Fraser fir trees that filled her farm, always savoring their fresh, familiar scent, especially during the holiday season-a time she held close to her heart.
Dorothy's love for her family was the cornerstone of her life. She was the heart of countless traditions, ensuring that the importance of family and the fleeting nature of time were never lost on those she loved. She found her greatest joy in the laughter and chaos of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, particularly during Christmas, when her home would come alive with decorations, shared stories, and the warmth of togetherness.
She delighted in simple pleasures, such as traveling, watching the birds flutter around her feeders, playing cards with friends and family, and embracing the beauty of each day. Her faith was unwavering, and she loved the Lord with all her heart, living a life that reflected kindness, devotion, and grace.
Dorothy's legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched with her love, wisdom, and traditions.
