Douglas Henry Murphy, age 74, went to rest with his Lord on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Houston Healthcare Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Christ's Sanctified Holy Church, Fort Valley, Georgia, with internment following at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Christ's Sanctified Holy Church. Flowers will be gratefully accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Christ's Sanctified Holy Church Cemetery Fund, P. O. Box 1465, Perry, GA 31069.
Doug was born on January 22, 1951, at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late V. George Murphy and Nettie "Dot" Murphy. As a teenage boy, he gave his heart and life to God and remained a dedicated member of Christ's Sanctified Holy Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, a Conference member, and Treasurer of the Chesapeake church. Doug had many interests, but he was most passionate about studying the Word of God.
Doug worked in various phases of construction alongside his father and brother. He then became owner of Douglas Murphy Builders and retired from the City of Virginia Beach Assessor's office in 2018. After retirement, he continued as a family partner of Summerville South Main.
Doug grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. He moved to Charleston, South Carolina, then Norfolk, Virginia, before settling in Georgia at our Church Camp Ground.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, George "Phillip" Murphy.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Doug are his loving wife of 45 years, Gale Woods Murphy; his son, Douglas M. Murphy of Hanahan, South Carolina; and his daughter, Krystle M. Skelton (Jason) of Wake Forest, North Carolina. He was "Grandpa" to five grandchildren whom he adored, George and Elizabeth Murphy, and Peyton, Ava, and Ella Skelton. Also surviving are his sister, Alice M. Collins (Danny); three sisters-in-law, JoAnn Murphy, Marie Lawson (Chris), and Shelli Merritt (Mike); as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family, who were special to him.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

I worked with Doug in the Assessors office for many years. If anyone could make you laugh, it would be Doug! He had some an easy going personality and could pop up with a quick remark that would just leave you smiling! He was one I truly missed when he retired!
My deepest condolences to his family!
