Obituary of Douglas A. Clark

Douglas A. Clark, age 78, of Hector, NY ended his long battle with cancer on the early morning of Wednesday August 6th at his home with his children by his side. Doug was a devoted and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, husband, uncle, and friend. His wisdom, storytelling, sense of humor, and larger than life personality made an impact on everyone he met. He had a deep love and appreciation for music and was surrounded by it always. He had many enjoyments in life, but nothing made him happier than his family, friends, and beloved home on Seneca Lake. Born in Elmira, NY to parents Rev. Robert and Doris (VanAtta) Clark, Doug graduated from EFA in 1965. He was a proud Army Veteran who served tours in Vietnam and Germany, then continued his service as commander of the Dundee VFW Post 8649 in his later years. After his service in the Army, he worked for the Bell Telephone Companies until eventually retiring from Verizon in 2002. During those years he was a valued member of the Communication Workers of America Union. His compassion was constantly observed, and he took pride in his many years of volunteering and being an active member of the community. His dedication and help with the Arctic League, volunteering at Arnot Ogden hospital, help with the Hector Fair, and his legendary parties to raise money for families around Christmas were amongst some of his favorite acts of servitude. Doug was an instant friend to anyone he met, and the world will forever seem a bit smaller without his presence. He is survived by children Jessica Bond (Kyle Medrek) and Cary Clark, partner-in-life Jacqueline Clark, grandchildren Isabella (Chad) Hunter, Jackson & Lillianne Bond, great-grandson Lucas Hunter, siblings Sandra & Donald Shepard, Lorraine & Terrance Dockerty, Gregory & Jennifer Clark, Wendy Clark, Bruce Clark (Louise Wagner), several nieces and nephews, his faithful companion Maizy…and many close friends who he considered family. Doug will be laid to rest at Woodlawn National Cemetery with full military honors in front of his family with a celebration of his life to follow later in the future.
