Doug Cowell, 83, of Edgewater, Florida passed away on July 29, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Painesville, Ohio on February 16, 1942.
An army medic, Doug served his country for 4 years. In 1966 he married his wife of 59 years, Joann Szekley. They moved to California in 1967 where he worked for Consolidated Freightways. After 1o years they returned to Ohio where he worked over the road driving trucks. Later he went to work for Township Road Department so he could spend time with his family.
He was an avid NASCAR fan. He liked traveling in his motor home until health problems stopped it. He came to Florida as a snow bird for 5 years before buying a house in - so he could be close to his son and family.
He is survived by his wife, Joann; his son, Doug and beloved daughter in law, Shannon; grandsons, Jeremy and Timothy; 2 great-granddaughters, Lilly and Evelyn; sisters, Sue (Mel) Deems, Nancy Miller, and Cindy Longia.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Holshue; step-father, William Holshue; biological father, Harold Cowell; brother, Joseph; and great-grandson Jayden.
