Douglas Charles Curls, age 66, of Clearwater, Florida died on August 8, 2025 in the company of his beloved family following a very courageous fight after surgical complications.
On May 28th, 1959, Doug was the firstborn son to the late Dorothy Waterhouse Curls and Charles Curls in Clearwater, Florida. He was a proud lifelong Clearwater resident, graduating from Clearwater High School where he played football, and spending many of his years on Clearwater Beach where he met the love of his life.
On December 4th, 1993, he married Maureen Cecile Canavan at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church in Safety Harbor, Florida. Together they shared nearly 32 years of marriage and a beautiful life with their only daughter, Molly Rose Curls.
Doug is survived by his wife, Maureen, daughter, Molly (Tony), granddaughter, Noa Rose, brother, Dirk (Elaine), and father, Charles.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dottie Curls.
Doug was a lifelong golf enthusiast and professional; dedicated to educating, sharing, and equipping golfers of all ages and experiences with the tools and guidance needed to love the game.
His artistic propensities came through in refurnishing furniture, perfecting classic southern and cajun dishes which he shared generously with family, home projects, and sharing the gift of creativity with his daughter, Molly.
Doug spent many years with lifelong friends enjoying duck hunting and fishing. His love of the outdoors continued through his life as he spent much of his time with Maureen and Molly at the beach, where many of the fondest memories can be found.
Doug "Sharkey" Curls shared a special bond with his family, including his brother Dirk and both of his parents whom he spent most of his life living around the corner from. He was a loving father, husband, and grandfather and his absence will be widely and deeply felt.
Doug will be most noticeably missed while watching golf tournaments and NASCAR, while listening to Jimmy Buffett and Kenny Chesney, on holidays looking for his signature cooking, at the beach, waiting for the next funniest joke to come out of his mouth, and every morning as he texted "Good Morning, Beautiful" to both his wife and daughter.
