It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of Donna Jean Austin, who left this world peacefully on July 30, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on September 9, 1935, in Rockford, Illinois, Donna spent her early years in Machesney Park before relocating to Dunedin, Florida, in 2006.
Donna was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Allen E. Austin, her mother Ella (Westfall) Nelson, her father Charles E. Nelson, and her brother. She is survived by her loving family, including her children: Charles (Barb) Austin, Sheryl Pipitone, Allen Austin, Jr. (Deb), Georgene Austin, and Ricky (Veronica) Austin. Donna's legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Nicholas Holt, Brittnie (Jeff) Faine, Joshua (Patricia) Austin, Jessica Austin, Tim (Laura) Austin, Joe (Trisha) Austin, Miranda McKee, and Kyle DeGroot, along with numerous great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her special adopted sister, Sandi Rossi, and her biological sister, Kathryn Barnard.
Donna was a devoted homemaker, dedicating herself to her family until the untimely passing of her husband. With resilience and determination, she returned to the workforce, taking on roles as a printing assistant, bakery help at a local grocery store, and a park attendant at the concession stand of a state park. She balanced her professional life with a commitment to her community, becoming a lifetime member of the VFW 9759 in Loves Park, Illinois, where she served diligently in the Women's Auxiliary.
In her younger years, Donna was an avid bowler, a pastime that brought her joy and camaraderie. Donna was known for her kind heart and her willingness to lend a hand, embodying the spirit of generosity that defined her life.
The family will hold a private service at Cedar Bluff Cemetery in Rockford, Illinois, honoring Donna's life and legacy. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Dunedin Community Center in Dunedin, Florida, on August 27, 2025, from 5:30 PM until 8:30 PM, where friends and family are welcome to gather and share their memories.
Donna Jean Austin leaves behind a legacy rich in love, laughter, and the warmth of family. Her unwavering spirit, warmth, and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her. Though she has departed from this world, her love will endure in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
