Douglas passed away on Good Friday, April 18, 2025 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Arrangements are under the direction of Biglins Mortuary in Spencer, NE.
Douglas Vern Dix was born on December 16, 1940 in Lynch, Nebraska. He was baptized into faith at the Community Bible Church in Butte, NE. He graduated from Butte High School in 1958.
He married Marilyn Collins on April 13, 1959 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Butte. Doug was drafted into the U.S. Army and traveled to Missouri and Texas before being stationed at Ft. Eustis, Virginia. He and Marilyn had 3 children - Steve (5/11/1960), Gwen (6/21/1962) and Jeff (9/26/1965). They moved to Bloomington, Minnesota in 1964. Doug worked in a warehouse for Vincent Brass for a while but eventually was employed at 3M as a logistics coordinator working closely with various manufacturing plants.
Doug loved his family and it was apparent every day. He gave us a wonderful example of a devoted, loving Christian husband and father. He was raised on the family farm and it taught him a sense of self-dependence and a get-it-done attitude, which he passed along to his family. Just because we hadn't done something before certainly didn't mean we couldn't do it. Like putting a basement under an existing home with a crawl space (quite the family project!). He was always willing to put himself out there for others, frequently doing projects or car work for others wherever he happened to be. Doug never failed to answer the call, he was our quiet, strong, faithful leader and shelter.
Doug is survived by his children, Steve (Debra) Dix of Savage, MN, Gwen (Michael) Dennie of Apple Valley and Jeff (Noreen) Dix of Savage, MN; five grandchildren, Brett (Ashley) Shelanski, Andrew (Aubrey) Busch, Jacob Dennie, Samantha Dix, Nicole (Jacob) Notermann; five great grandchildren, Harper, Riley, Hawkin, William and Jackson; siblings, Bev Fancher of Long Beach, CA, Clark (Sue) Dix of Omaha, NE and Jerry (Karen) Dix of Bellevue, NE; aunt, Jackie Lindgren of Bonesteel, NE; numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn in 2023, and his parents Vern and Eva Marie Dix.
