Private family services are planned to celebrate and remember the life of Douglas Lee "Doug" Duncan. Doug passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, November 29, 2024. He was 69.
Born in Okemah, OK on January 23, 1955, to Homer and Jenita Rea (Bartlett) Duncan. Doug was raised and educated in the Tulsa and Sapulpa area, before moving to Adair, his senior year in high school. Following his graduation from Adair High School, Doug continued his education at OSU Institute of Technology in Okmulgee where he earned his associate degree in Design Engineering. On January 18, 1974, in Adair, OK, Doug married the love of his life Vickie McNair. Their marriage was gifted with 2 sons Dustin and Alex. Doug provided for his family working at McElroy Manufacturing and Steeltek.
A man that excelled at being a husband, father, and Papa. Doug was involved in all his boys' school activities. He coached their little league team and was the president of Adair Little League Association. He enjoyed the times his family could all be together and rest assured his smile was the brightest when that happened. Playing with his grandchildren came very easy for Doug. According to his son, Doug was amazing with babies and young children. It was almost as if they were naturally drawn to him.
Doug was a gifted musician and had an exceptional talent for playing the guitar. He was a member of the band Haywire for many years. They played regularly at the Chelsea Roundup Club, but also all over the state. His biggest fan was his wife Vickie who even designed the band's shirts. Doug and his band opened for the likes of Sawyer Brown, Merle Haggard and Hank Williams Jr. to name just a few. He and the band made one recording on the Oklahoma Swingin' Country which is still aired regularly on the RSU television station. Doug was an avid knife collector and according to his wife, he had them stashed all over their home. No story about Doug would be complete unless you mentioned his chihuahua dog Pixie. According to his family she was football sized and had an extra long tongue. She brought Doug much enjoyment and was for sure, his faithful companion.
A man who has left a huge footprint and legacy that will live on in the lives of his family and friends. Doug is survived by his wife of 51 years Vickie, sons, Dustin Duncan and wife Mandy, Alex Duncan and wife Brandylynn, grandchildren, Emma Langley, Tyler Sloan-Duncan, and Matthew Duncan, great grandson, Jax Hughes, sister, Kristi Duncan, brother, Bret Duncan and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Doug was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Chuck Duncan.
Doug's family would like to say a special thank you to Doug's niece Kara Greene for the excellent care she gave her uncle.
