Douglas A. Hanes, age 72, of Cottontown, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his residence, on October 4th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Bowling Green, KY to the late John A. and Gladys Marie Higgs Hanes. He was a salesman for American Home Design, a Christian, and an avid University of Kentucky sports fan-but more than anything he was a family man and his grandchildren were his world.
Doug is survived by his wife of 50 years Patti Newsome Hanes of TN. A daughter, Shanna Dawn Hanes (Joseph Reynolds) of Lawrenceburg, TN and his son, Douglas Adam Hanes (Shari) of White House, TN. Grandchildren, Emma, Olivia and Abby Hanes and Luca Hanes-Reynolds. Brothers and sisters, John Hanes (Bonnie), Bill Hanes (Gerri), Janice Hanes, David Hanes (Deceased). Several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews and cousins. His mother-in-law, Betty Maxwell. Along with his life-long friends like Steve Phelps, Steve Miller, Dennis Harris, Lynn Fly Whitmer and so many others.
Friends may visit with the family Sunday, October 12, from 12 noon to 2:00 pm; with the Memorial Service, starting at 2:00 pm all at the J.C. Kirby and Son Broadway Chapel in Bowling Green, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
