Douglas Dale Henry, a beacon of wisdom and friendliness, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024, at his home in Fairview, Michigan. Born on December 23, 1948, in Flint, Michigan, he was a man whose intelligence and kind demeanor touched the lives of all who knew him. Douglas's journey on this earth spanned 75 years, each one filled with purpose, passion, and the love of his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of many years, Cheryl Lee (Freeburn) Henry. Together, they built a life full of joy and cherished memories. Douglas was a devoted father to his children, John C. (Sara) Henry, Jason M. (Sara) Henry, David R. Bunyak, and Shawn D. Bunyak. He instilled in them the values of hard work and integrity, and he took great pride in their accomplishments. His spirit will continue to live on through his grandchildren, Ali and Blake Henry, Morgan, Jackson, and Sidney Bunyak, who brought him immeasurable happiness.
Douglas also leaves behind his brother, William (Donna) Henry, and a legacy of love within his numerous nieces and nephews. His big-hearted dog, Joe, and two beloved cats, Tucky and Squirrel, will miss his gentle presence. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Richard and Robert Henry, Dawn (Tim) Bronson, Donnalee (Darrell) Reynolds, and Patricia (Bob) Kovach. Each of these individuals shared a part of their journey with Douglas, and their memories will be treasured forever.
Professionally, Douglas was known for his exceptional ability to guide individuals to reach their full potential. His career in project management for new home construction allowed him to leave a tangible legacy in the form of the many homes he helped to create. His colleagues and associates admired his dedication and skill, and the impact of his work will continue to be felt by many.
Douglas's interests were as diverse as his talents. A keen observer of both world and US politics, he enjoyed engaging in thoughtful discussions and was always ready to offer insightful commentary. His love for cooking was evident in the delicious meals he prepared for family and friends. An avid collector of antiques, he found joy in the stories and history behind each piece. His passion for hobby farming, swimming, and gardening reflected his love for the outdoors and the simple pleasures in life.
Friends and family will remember Douglas as a wise and intelligent man, whose friendly approach to life made him a joy to be around. He had the rare ability to listen deeply and offer advice that was both thoughtful and encouraging. His presence was a source of comfort and inspiration, and his legacy is one of love, learning, and genuine human connection.
