Douglas Hizer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ritchay Funeral Home - Wisconsin Rapids on Dec. 12, 2025.
Douglas G. Hizer, age 56, passed away unexpectedly on December 11, 2025, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025, from 11am to 2pm at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. Military Rites will be performed at 2pm at the funeral home.
Douglas was born on October 17, 1969, in Beloit, Wis. to Donald and Sharron (Tranberg) Hizer.
Doug served honorably in the United States Navy, including time supporting SEAL Team Three, where his dedication, reliability, and strength made a lasting impact. His service was a source of great pride throughout his life.
Away from duty, Doug found peace and happiness in the outdoors. He loved camping, exploring nature, and enjoying quiet moments under open skies. He approached fatherhood and grandfatherhood with the same heart and devotion he brought to everything-always present, always supportive, and always full of love. Being an amazing dad and grandpa was his greatest joy.
Doug had a naturally inquisitive mind. He was an avid reader, diving into countless worlds through books. His imagination and sense of adventure also drew him to Dungeons & Dragons.
A proud member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Doug embraced history, craftsmanship, and camaraderie. The SCA community was a second home where his authenticity and enthusiasm shone brightly.
Those who knew Doug will remember him as someone who valued a simple life, lived with honesty, humor, and loyalty. He was a steadfast friend-quick to listen, slow to judge, and always ready with a helping hand.
Doug is survived by his children, Donaven Hizer (Amy), Dawson Hizer (Destiny), Aleesha Swanson (Harry), Damion Heinitz (Tyra), Devin Adkins, Autumn Scholten, Mystrie Scholten (Dontae); grandchildren, Abbie, Rilynn, Christian, Harry, Linqyn, Quinton, Hudson, Alese; father, Donald Hizer (Shirley); ex-wife, Tabatha Hizer; sisters, Maria Hizer, Mindy (Hizer) Eide; close friend, Scott Keller (Monkey Boy) and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Kay Kizer and his maternal and fraternal grandparents.
