Douglas Hopper Obituary
SALEM - Mr. Douglas "Tod" Hopper, 81 of Salem, beloved husband of Joan (Plazza) Hopper, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 18th, 2024 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Chicago, Illinois he was the son of the late Jerome and Elizabeth (English) Hopper. He was raised and educated in Wellesley and was a graduate of Wellesley High School. Douglas continued his education receiving his bachelor's degree from the Boston Architectural Center.
An honorably discharged veteran, Douglas proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
A talented architect Douglas began his professional career at Sylvania, Boston St., facility, and later owned and operated the esteemed Douglas Hopper Architect firm where he plied his craft for over 50 successful years.
Throughout his life, Douglas possessed a deep passion for the guitar, which he played for over 60 years. While he mostly played for himself and his family, his love for music shone through in every note he played. Douglas could always be counted on to bring laughter to any room with his quiet yet humorous nature. His romantic spirit touched the hearts of all who knew him, and his love for his family knew no bounds.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Douglas cherished his relationships above all else. His affinity for animals led him to care for many furry companions over the years, embodying a kindness that extended to all creatures. He took great joy in attending music festivals, where he could immerse himself in the beauty of melodies and rhythms. Douglas will be remembered for his love of family, music and the laugh that would light up a room and will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends.
Surviving Douglas in addition to his wife, Joan with whom he shared 56 years of marriage, is his daughter, Dory Hopper Clemens of Woodbridge, VA, his grandsons, Andrew Clemens of Fairfax, VA and Matthew Clemens of Woodbridge, VA, and his son-in-law, Michael Lipman of Peabody. He was also the father of the late Deborah Hopper.
