Douglas Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home & Crematory - South Naperville (Route 59) on Oct. 6, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Doug was born to be an engineer. At three years old, he could be found crawling around the pediatrician's office investigating the electrical wiring. The qualities of an excellent electrical engineer; problem solving, organizational skills, inquisitiveness, diligence, were all obvious at a young age.

Doug was born in Chicago to Donald and Barbara Johnson (deceased) of Highland, Indiana. His older brother Greg (Jennifer) Johnson resides in Indianapolis, Indiana.

He graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He then joined ComEd and was soon a Principal Engineer for the Braidwood Nuclear Station in Illinois. Doug stayed with ComEd for the remainder of his career - an amazing 38 years. He found his work to be very fulfilling.

Doug was also steadfast in his personal life. He married Cynthia Cox of Highland, Indiana on November 5, 1983. They had three children. Katie (Ryan) Smith of Peoria, Illinois, Julie (Carl) Ambrosio Ba-ad of Oswego, Illinois and Carly (Andrew) Herrnreiter of Lombard, Illinois.

During his retirement, he continued his love for all things electrical. Doug enjoyed cruising the world, riding his e-bike, and spending time with his wife, children and his dog, Poppy.

Family and friends are invited to join us for a celebration of Doug's life at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral home 24021 W Royal Worlington Drive, Naperville, Illinois 60564 from noon to 2 pm on Friday October 10, 2025. A luncheon will be held in his memory immediately after. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to The Greater Chicago Caged Bird Rescue and Adoption Society, where his family volunteers: https://www.gccbc.org/donate.html
