Douglas (Doug) Eugene Kluver, 65, of Allen, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, January 11th after a hard-fought battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme cancer.
Doug was born on June 5, 1959, in Sioux City, Iowa to Don and Dianne (Sayles) Kluver.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the First Lutheran Church in Allen, NE with Pastor Deb Hammer officiating. Prior to the service, the visitation with the family will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.
Doug was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Allen. He attended Allen Consolidated Schools. On July 29th, 1978, he married Peggy Taylor at the First Lutheran Church. To this union, they welcomed their only child, a daughter, Jaime.
He started working at Swift & Co. until its closing then went to work for Dixon County Roads and Emerson Township as a maintainer operator. He then started his career as a builder, building many custom homes in the Tri-State area, even building the Methodist Church in Allen, a funeral home, a strip mall, and the Red Robin restaurant in Sioux City. In 1999, Doug ventured off and started his own construction business as a house framer. Although diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2004, it did not stop him from working.
In 1994, Doug and Peggy bought Wilmer & Joyce Benstead’s farm south of Allen where he built a home for his family and started farming the ground. Farming was a lifelong dream of Doug’s. In addition to building homes and farming, he also custom baled for a period of time.
Doug retired in 2020 and enjoyed his hobby of working on old tractors, attending his grandchildren’s activities, and cheering on the Husker volleyball team. His greatest joy was his family,
especially helping his grandchildren; Ava with her “prom pickup”, Tucker working on go-carts and going junkin’ with Landri.
Doug is survived by his wife of 46 years, daughter Jaime and her husband Lane, grandchildren Ava, Tucker Douglas, and Landri Anderson of Martinsburg, his siblings Donald of Hesston, KS, DeLinda (Bill) McIntosh of South Sioux City, Darwin (Su) of Homer, Dawn Kluver of Salem, OR, Dana Condray (Jackie) of Kingsford, MI, David (Christina) of Molalla, OR, and Dan (Michelle) of Bartlett, NE. In-laws Dale & Janice Taylor of Allen, Vickie & DeWayne Davenport of Thomson GA, Barb Karmann of Allen, Mary & Larry Klemme of Maricopa, AZ, and Judy & Darwin Nice Allen, NE as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, and his faithful companion, Sadie.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father in-law Stub & Neva Taylor, sister Deb, maternal and paternal grandparents, and nephews Vernon Rix Jr. and Jason Taylor.
The family would like to thank the Allen-Waterbury Fire and Rescue, the staff at Pender Community Hospital, University of Nebraska Medical Center-Omaha, June Nylen Cancer Center, and St. Croix Hospice-Norfolk for the wonderful care they provided during Doug’s illness.
