Douglas Marshall Obituary
Douglas Harold Marshall passed away on September, April 12, 2025 in RanchoCordova, California. Doug was born May 5, 1944 in Denver Colorado by Harold andLola Marshall. He was the oldest brother of Dee (Cassetta) and Don Marshall. Dougwent to Lakewood High School, where his love for track and field formed. He was StateChampion in 1962 and set the state record in high hurdles. This earned him a trackscholarship to the University of Colorado Boulder, where he ran the 400m hurdles andmile relay. As well as being a student athlete, he worked numerous jobs, was part ofPhi Delta Theta fraternity and graduated with an Interior Design degree in 1967. Dougmoved to Chicago to work for Schmidt Garden & Erickson. A year later, he moved backto Denver working first for Noble Sysco, then Best Western and Desk Incorporated until1979, he set out on his own and formed DHMarshall Design. Doug ran his businessuntil 1989, when the family moved to San Diego, and he began working for Trust House40. In 1991, he left the interior design field and became a home insurance inspectoruntil 2009 when he retired.
Doug was married to Nancy Ostmeyer Marshall for over 55 years. They met at a barcalled “The Store” in Denver in 1968. They married on July 26, 1969, in Stockton, KS(Nancy’s hometown). Two years later, they welcomed their daughter Debi. Then threeyears later, son Matt was born and completed the family. Doug enjoyed spending timewith his family, going on vacations, cheering for Matt and Debi in their sports and doingmany projects at their homes in Englewood, CO and San Diego, CA. Doug and Nancywere season ticket holders of their beloved Denver Broncos, even going to the 1977Super Bowl in New Orleans. He also loved cheering for his Colorado Buffaloes.October 2, 2014, he was honored as a Living Legend at CU for his outstanding trackcareer.
In 1995, the family grew with daughter, Debi marrying her husband Jeff Pruitt (NC).In 2000, grandson Hayden was born and 7 years later, a second grandson Avery joined. In 2012, son Matt married his wife Kellie Murphy (CA) and in 2015, granddaughter Emery joined the family. That’s when Doug and Nancy moved to Sacramento, CA to help takecare of their granddaughter. Doug loved being a grandpa and watching them grow up.In 2023, Doug moved into Summerset Senior Living due to health problems. He madenew friends immediately and enjoyed all the fun activities, especially Blackjack andBingo. Several months later, Nancy joined him, and they enjoyed making their littleapartment home.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents, Harold Marshall 1972 and Lola WykoffMarshall 2002. He is survived by his wife Nancy Marshall, daughter Debi MarshallPruitt (Jeff Pruitt), son Matt Marshall (Kellie Murphy), grandchildren Hayden Pruitt, AveryPruitt, Emery Marshall, sister Dee Cassetta, brother Don Marshall (Sherry Marshall),nephews Jason, Bryan, Troy Marshall, Blake Cassetta, and Josh Ostmeyer, niecesTraci Collins and Sara Melvin, as well as many Marshall and Wykoff cousins.If you had the pleasure of meeting Doug, he would make sure you were having fun andlaughing always.
