Doug served in the US Navy for 9 years and retired from DuPont Dow Elastomer in 2000. He was a member of the SJA Knights of Columbus Council 5935 and Archbishop Blenk Assembly 318 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He loved fishing, baseball and bowling and his great-grandchildren were the light of his life.
Douglas is survived by his loving wife, Geraldine "Gerry", children Lasonya Figura, Lavona "Marie" (Rickey) Millet, LaDonna (Kelly) Patton, George Lassalle, Jr. and Laurie Lassalle, grandchildren Grace (Carlos) Nicholas, Kristin Matthew, Kasie (Ashton) Jensen, Whitney (Jared) Triche, Robert Jensen, Katie Patton, Julia (Dyllon) Davis, Liam Morrison, Kaely Morrison and Noah Lassalle, great-grandchildren Noah (Amber) Nicholas, Gabby (Rae) Nicholas, Brayden and Mason Nicholas, Aiden Cali, Emma Triche, Skylir and Jaymes Tamplain, Fayith, Paris and Wrenlee Jensen, brothers & sisters Phil (June) Matherne, Allen (Jody) Matherne, Gloria (Gordon) Tamplain, Noreen Champagne, Patty (Conrad) Baker and sister-in-laws Amber Matherne and Joy Lynn Moore, godchild Gingar (Josh) Guidroz and numerous nieces and nephews.
Doug was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Moore Matherne, parents Lise and Sidney Matherne, mother-in-law and father-in-law Mary and James Moore, brother SJ Matherne and brother-in-laws Paul Champagne and Tip Moore.
Many thanks to Modern Hospice and Southeast Louisiana Veterans Home employees, "his extended families" for all the love and care they provided. We appreciate everything you did for him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 1550 Hwy 44, Reserve, LA 70084. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM. Interment will be in St. John Memorial Gardens in LaPlace, LA. Memorial donations may be made in honor of Douglas Matherne to SELA Veterans Home Patient Activities Department, 4080 W Airline Hwy, Reserve, LA 70084.
Arrangements entrusted to Millet-Guidry Funeral Home.
