On Wednesday, December 2, 2020, having lived a long and productive life, Douglas Theodore Nelson passed from this life of natural causes.

Doug was born on February 2, 1939, to Virginia Arlene Butler Nelson and Theodore Oscar Nelson, and was the youngest child and only boy in his family. He was well loved by his parents, and adored and spoiled by his three older sisters, Dora June Payne, Joyce Arlene Thompson (deceased) and Glenda Sharon (Sherry) Jones.

Doug served in the United States Air Force for six and a half years, and then continued to serve in the defense of our country, in a civilian capacity, as Materials Expediter with the Aircraft Directorate. He began his civilian career at Hill Air Force Base, in Layton Utah, then served at McClellan Air Force Base, in California, and Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana. He returned to Hill Air Force Base in 1987 where he worked until he retired.

In 1969 Doug married Betty Lou Nay. They had been married for forty eight years when Betty passed away in 2017. After Betty's death Doug lived alone, but was blessed by the friendship of Bob Wagner; as well as the loving care and friendship of Sylvia Jensen and her family.

Doug was an energetic man, who knew how to work hard. He also had many interests and hobbies, including leather work, painting, woodwork, fishing, and kayaking. He enjoyed walking and would often take very long walks. He was a dapper dresser, and a friendly and interested neighbor who made friends easily. In his later life he attended as many family events as possible. Doug loved God and was committed to his church. He was a good man who lived a good life. We trust our brother, uncle, and friend is now at rest in the hands of the God he loved.

There will be a memorial service to celebrate the life Douglas Theodore Nelson on Friday, December 11, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Layton Christian Academy and a military color guard salute to thank him for his service to our country at 2:15 at Clearfield Cemetery.
