Douglas Onan, age 77, of Apple Valley, passed away March, 28, 2025. He is preceded in death by his loving parents Donald Onan and Florence Beatrice Larsen- Onan; and brother Mark.
"Uncle Doug", or "Dougie," was a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was always smiling, loved a good joke, and was quick to grace a conversation with his distinctive laugh. Doug lived a simple (in a good way) life and was a naturally happy and caring person. He was an Army veteran and a patriot. Doug loved talking family, travel, history, Bemidji State University, sports, and the railroad. Wasn't a snappy dresser, which his family and friends would regularly joke around with him about, and he'd always get a good laugh from it. He wore his frugality with pride, which we all loved. There's a lot of lessons to be learned in the way he lived. Dougie never married, so his nephews, nieces and great nieces and nephews were like his kids and his family and friends as a whole were everything to him. He was close to his faith as well. Doug will be missed by all who knew him. The world lost a genuinely good one.
Doug is survived by his brother Thomas (Elaine); loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and special friend Stephen Post.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 10, 2025, at White Funeral Home, 14560 Pennock Ave., Apple Valley, MN 55124, with a visitation starting at 10:00 AM. Interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

I worked with Doug at the railroad, always caring and ready for a joke. While we were working, we parked our cars where the St. Paul Saints stadium is now located. Doug had the radio stolen out of his Honda not once, but the thief came back and stole the replacement. Doug was not laughing about that one. Godspeed to you Dougie.
