Doug and the entire Pierce Family hold a special place in our hearts. We are heartbroken to hear such sad news.
Pierce and Birchmont remain favorite memories for our entire family as all five Lustbader kids went there. When reflecting on favorite childhood memories, camp Pierce/Birchmont takes top ranking!
We are deeply grateful to Doug for dedicating his life to helping our children enjoy nature, sports and develop lifelong meaningful relationships. Thank you and you will be greatly missed.

The Pierce family had a huge impact in forging who I am today. Camp was my "real" life and the school year was just the "filler" in between summers. I had the benefit of 2 years day camp before becoming a Birchmont devotee and have such fond memories of that time. The flaming hoop dive, shetland pony cart rides, old "pops" making rock candy from rocks, and so many more memories. I treasure them and thank you all for what you do with the children. Doug made a huge and lasting impact on countless lives. May he rest in peace and you take comfort in the many wonderful memories you made together.

My grandson, now almost 21 years-old, attended Pierce School and Camp for many years. I never realized the impact that Doug had on him until he called me this week to ask me to pick him up at the LIRR station and drive him to St. Mary's. He was coming home from college in Manhattan to attend Doug's funeral Mass.
He has so many fond memories of Pierce and all of his teachers and counselors, and, of course, Doug, whose guidance and kindness and spirit of fun will always influence him.
Thank you, God, for allowing this wonderful man to touch my grandson's life.

My wife Irene and I sent our three children to Pierce where they were campers and then counselors. They loved every minute of it and are now so sad with Doug's passing. They just returned for his wake held at the camp telling us of all the old friends they saw. I remember attending a PowWow when our kids were young campers. Watching Doug jump for a tree through a ring of fire into a pool was such a treat. Rest in peace Doug. You touched so many lives in a loving way. Jack & Irene MInett. Port Washington, NY.

Doug´s passing is unfashionable to me. I thought him to be immortal. I worked for 20 seasons at Pierce Country Day Camp, and always felt respected, valued and even loved by Doug, Forrester and administration. Doug was larger than life, but never asked me to do something he wouldn´t do himself. Condolences to Marie and the entire Pierce family.

60+ years is a long time to know someone.I was shocked and saddened by Dougs passing.
It all began at St Marys School,Roslyn,NY.Doug was a year ahead of me and Marie was a year behind me .
Years passed as we all went in separate directions for High School and College, but summers were spent at Pierce Camp.
As years went on many us got married, had children and moved on with our lives. On Oct 8,1990, my first wife passed away of breast cancer. Doug and Marie attended her funeral-In the spring of 1991 Doug and I were playing golf and he turned to me and said"What is Kristin ,my daughter doing for the summer?I said I don't know and he said "She is mine for 8 weeks-Summer was spent at Pierce Camp-I will never forget that moment. The years have passed and we have all gone in different directions.
To:Marie,Jessica,Jocelyn,Courtney,Tommy,Greg,Laura,Forrester,Kathy and Will-My Thoughts and Prayers are with you.
To Doug-Rest in Peace-I will miss you and never forget you

I first met Doug in August of 1966 at LaSalle Military Academy, it was the start of a 57 year old friendship. We were classmates, roomates, teammates.Doug had an award winning smile and the heart of a giant. My sincere condolences to Marie, their daughters, his family Greg, Tom, Debbie and Forrester.
