On Wednesday morning, December 4, 2024, our beloved Father, Grandpa, and OG joined his family in Heaven.
Douglas Gordon Rhodd, Sr was born on August 25, 1947, in Pawnee, Oklahoma to Lemuel Rhodd and Iva LittleStandingBuffalo Rhodd. Doug went to school in White Eagle and then later on to Chilocco Indian School where he graduated. In 1968 Doug enlisted in the US Army and was deployed to Vietnam where he was a helicopter technician. After he was honorably discharged, he moved to Oakland, California. He worked for Wells Fargo and met the love of his life, Celestine “Sally” Thomas-Rhodd, whom he married on February 18th then moved to Wichita, Kansas, where he was employed by Boeing until he retired. Following his retirement from Boeing he Moved back to Ponca City, OK with his family and joined the Ponca Tribal Police, he also served as a tribal Council member, Vice Chair and then Chairman for many years. After his retirement from tribal government he enjoyed going to Casinos, going to garage sales and spending time with his family.
Doug is survived by his sister; Sharon Dawson, brothers; Henry Rhodd and Gene Zaitshik, sons; Douglas Jr, Russell Sr, Warren, and daughter Angelita, grandchildren; Taylor, Maribel, Ivaline, Kelly, Katrina, Doug III, Arianne, Russell Jr, Tennyson, Michael Ray, Celestine, Suzoni, and Warren, great-grandchildren; Kylee, Shannon, Doug IV, Kaleah, Aline Rae, Emmett, Calm, Lorenzo, Tennyson Jr, and Calias, along with nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Proceeded in death by his parents, Lemuel and Iva Rhodd, multiple brothers and sisters and the love of his life, Celestine “Sally” Rhodd.
Services following Traditional noon feast and give away. Services will be at 2pm at the Ponca Indian Cultural Center, Saturday, December 7th, 2024. Doug will be placed to rest in the Ponca Tribal Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Douglas G. Rhodd III, Russell Rhodd Jr, Tennyson Rhodd, Michael Ray Rhodd, Warren Rhodd, Theodore Overland, and Kyle Harvey. Honorary Pallbearers; Craig Primeaux, Mike Decorah, Scotty Simpson Sr, Craig Camp, Bennett Arkeketa, Lemuel “Chops” Rhodd III, Sylvester Rhodd, and Henry "Hank" Rhodd Jr.
