Vivian Rhodd Obituary

Vivian Lucille (Dyer) Rhodd, 92, of Bartlesville, OK, joined her loving husband, Thomas J. Rhodd, in heaven on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. Vivian was born in a one-room cabin on July 28, 1933, in Alley, MO, (now Alley Springs) to Troy Albert Dyer and Mildred Frances (Johnson) (Dyer) Unruh. Her father built on the Jacks Fork River across from some bluffs in Missouri. They moved to Dewey when Vivian was 3 months old. Troy worked at the quarry and later the cement plant until his death. Vivian attended Dewey Public Schools from the first grade to the tenth grades. Vivian married the love of her life, Thomas J. Rhodd, on August 29, 1949, in Bentonville, AR, and they enjoyed 71 years of loving marriage until Tom's passing on March 24, 2021. They lived in Shawnee, OK, for a time and then moved back to Dewey. To this union three children were born, Vesta Lucille Rhodd, Thomas Anthony Rhodd, and Lynne Michelle Oswald. At the age of 88, Vivian found out she was one-quarter Caddo Indian, and she said she wished she had found out before her husband died, because he always called her a "white woman." Tom was Pottawatomi Indian. She was a beauty operator for 39 years and her last job was at Green Country Village. She loved working there, serving the "old folks" for 12 or 13 years. Her last boss was very special to her. Vivian loved to play cards and crochet. In their younger years, Vivian and Tom enjoyed riding motorcycles with their children and friends. When the kids were teens everyone had their own motorcycle except Vivian who was happy to just ride along with Tom. They took many memorable family bike vacations and attended church together. Together Tom and Vivian enjoyed attending Saturday night dances and were members of the Moose Lodge and the Copan Round-Up Club. Survivors include her three children, Vesta Huffman and husband Mike, Thomas A. Rhodd, L. Michelle Oswald and husband Mike; six grandchildren, Thomas M. Huffman, Michael R. Glendenning, Max R. Glendenning and wife Billie, Melissa Huffman, Michael R Huffman, Corey R. Huffman; as well as a sister-in-law, Irene Dyer and family; one sister, Anette Thomas and husband Joe and family; very special nieces and nephews, Sara Thomas and Carol, Troy Thomas (who helped take care of Tom and never stopped coming); eight great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; wonderful aunts, uncles and cousins. Vivian was preceded in death by her husband Thomas; her parents, Troy and Mildred Dyer; a very special stepdad, Robert Unruh; grandson, Michael Jason Huffman; sister, Elsie May Hendricks; brother, Troy Wayne Dyer; grandfathers and grandmothers, aunts and uncles, all special; and some cousins. Visitation will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Dewey Chapel, 113 S. Osage Ave., Dewey, OK 74029, 918-534-3030. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 25, 2025, at Dewey Cemetery with Mr. Troy Thomas officiating. Services are under the direction of Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Dewey Chapel.
