It is with great sorrow that the family of Douglas W. Romig, age 42, announces that he died unexpectedly on April 20, 2024. He was born in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to loving parents William and Rita Romig. After graduating from high school, he pursued his passion for art by studying at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. His career was marked by his creative work in stained glass design.
Doug was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his parents, William and Rita Romig; siblings Jeff (Stephanie) Romig, and Sandy (Marty) Azen; and nieces and nephews, Isaac Romig, Ella Romig (Elias Zamora-fiance), Luc Azen, and Myla Azen. Throughout his life, Doug's family, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends were always there sharing in life-celebrating events.
Being a longtime member of the Corinthian Lodge No. 573, Free and Accepted Masons, was a great source of hope, connection, and service for Doug. He served as Worshipful Master and Chairman of Education. And he carried a wonderful memory of touring the Grand Lodge in Dublin, Ireland while on vacation with his family in 2019.
Doug loved the game of ice hockey, playing in his high school years and later with an
adult men's league. His true passion, however, was enjoying many hobbies outdoors. He loved sunrises and the promise they gave for a new day. He also loved kayaking the waterways around the area, including Moraine State Park, North Park Lake, and the Three Rivers in Pittsburgh, especially when there was a Pirates game. Hiking on newly discovered trails was a favorite, and he often enlisted his parents to join in for a new adventure. Finding the perfect piece of wood on one of his hikes, and with the encouragement of a friend in woodworking art, he created a decorative walking stick for his dad that is still in use today.
Doug's presence will be profoundly missed, but his memory will continue to be a beacon of warmth and joy for all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He leaves a legacy of love, laughter, and service, and followed the motto: "Just for today.. to do somebody a good turn, and not get found out; if anybody knows of it, it will not count. All is Well."
Visitation will be Saturday, April 27th, 2024, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Schellhaas & Sons Funeral Home, 1600 Stone Mansion Drive,
Sewickley, Pa. 15143. Interment will be private.
