In Loving Memory of Douglas "Wayne" Scheets
1942 - 2025
After celebrating his 83rd birthday on Sunday, Douglas Wayne Scheets passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. Wayne, as he was known to family and friends, was born in Haskell, TX, on April 13, 1942 to William Edgar and George Orrey Scheets.
Wayne Married April Gunter on July 2, 1964, and they celebrated over 60 years together. He held many jobs throughout his life, but his most cherished position was father to his sons, Billy Wayne and Michael.
Wayne climbed utility poles as a lineman for Tri-County Electric and Texas Electric before supervising the maintenance and upkeep of the many vehicles in the Texas Electric fleet. He could listen to your vehicle as you pulled into his driveway and tell you what was wrong. Wayne eventually started his own trucking business before retiring.
As a testament to his service to others, Wayne served as fire chief of the Briar Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Carroll, Wesley, George and Caleb; sisters Ruthie and Louise; and his son Billy Wayne.
He is survived by his wife April; son Michael and wife Teriann of Bedford; grandchildren Brianne and Austin of Bedford; sister Marie Harrison of Baird; and his beloved dog Dash.
Wayne will be remembered for being kind, patient, honest, and forthright. He will be missed by many family and friends.
Wayne will have a visitation Thursday, April 24 @ 1:00 PM at our Azle & Lake Worth Funeral Home Chapel. His funeral service will begin after @ 2:00 PM. Following his services, Wayne will have his committal service on the grounds of Azleland Cemetery & Memorial Park. Located at 850 N. Cardinal Rd, Azle Texas, 76020.
May he rest in peace.
