Douglas Joseph Shearer 65, passed away on July 14, 2025 in Visalia, California. Born on February 6, 1960, in Los Angeles, California, Douglas lived a life marked by creativity, Service, and a deep commitment to helping others. Douglas was raised in the Roman Catholic faith and attended church regularly throughout his youth. In 2015, his spiritual journey took a profound turn when he became active at the Visalia Rescue Mission. There, he participated in a ministry trip and was baptized in the ocean- a moment that marked his decision to give his life to the Lord and embrace Christianity. His faith remained central to his life from that point forward. In 1977, Douglas answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army. After completing boot camp, he became part of the esteemed 82nd Airborne Division stationed at Fort Bragg. Following his active duty Service, he continued his military career at Fort Irwin until completing his service in 1983. His time in uniform reflected both courage and dedication. Douglas possessed an extraordinary artistic talent. He had a passion for drawing and painting that stayed with throughout his life. His creativity extended beyond canvas- he was also with gifted with carpentry skills that allowed him to build and create with precision and care. In his youth, Douglas was a exceptional athlete and a talented pitcher whose abilities drew attention from none other than the LA Dodgers. He had many passion that brought joy to those around him. He loved working out and staying physically fit. His enthusiasm for music and cars was infectious, as was his deep affection for animals. Above all else Douglas cherished time spent with Family and found great happiness in their company. Later in life, Douglas enrolled in the Visalia Rescue Mission program- a transformative experience that not only helped him overcome personal challenges but also revealed his calling: to help others battling addiction. Upon graduating from the program, he dedicated himself to listening to others' stories and sharing his own journey as a source of hope and encouragement. His compassion and willingness to connect made a lasting impact on many lives. Douglas is lovingly remembered by his daughters: Cecilia D'Awn, Amanda Reis (Jeremy); Cheyenne, Fallon, and Dakota; his siblings Anthony; Sandy Smith (Bill); Eddie (Bobbie); two grandsons; three granddaughters; six nephews; and one niece. He now joins those who passed before him: his mother Jeanette Shearer; father Russell Shearer; brother Randy Shearer and niece Elizabeth Shearer. May Douglas Joseph Shearer's memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire acts of kindness and resilience in others.
